Brown pot/tankard thrown in terracotta.  About 8 inches tall, and had it for years but have never been able to read the mark in the ellipse....maybe not even 20th century.  Has some sort of burnt/soldered residue and the number 423.  Thanks for any help

I think it's Dicker Pottery, but not their commonly used mark. Found an example on StudioPottery.com with a stamped number, and another with an oval mark, similar to this one.

The glaze is a match certainly...there is some irridescence to mine as well. I had a look at the tankard again and round the oval mark there are 4 letters around the mark that are barely visible in the photo. Top left is an 's' bottom keft an 'e' bottom right a 'c' or 'g' and top right not really sure as too indistinct. There is a very stylistic word spelt out in the oval but I cant make much out.

The glaze looks very much like Dicker Pottery but the thing that puts me off it being by them is the impressed number. Can't recall seeing shape numbers on Dickerware.

There is Jackfield pottery - black Victorian lustre pottery, but this isn't their mark.

Dicker Pottery was going for a very long time. My money's still on them.

Silchester ware vase with typical gunmetal dark grey/black glaze and 'rustic' potting.
